"[Scott] Eastwood, who has worked steadily for several years in features not involving his iconic father, nonetheless inherited his father's strong presence and an effectively minimalist style, adding his own touch of frighteningly innocent-faced danger when the time comes"
Film Journal International
After his new bride is kidnapped in the middle of the night, Jakson (Scott Eastwood, Grand Torino, The Longest Ride) embarks on a desperate journey to find her. He is a former Civil War soldier afflicted with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and during this rescue mission, he begins to unravel as the horrors of war come back to torment him. Racing along the trail to Mexico, Jakson comes across various groups of people who turn out to be not so sympathetic to his cause, including Ezra (Walton Goggins, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight), a mysterious man who takes great pleasure from killing people indiscriminately.
Diablo is an unusual and moody Western that also stars renowned actor Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, The Color Purple), Adam Beach (Flags of Our Fathers, Windtalkers) and Camilla Belle (When a Stranger Calls, The Lost World: Jurassic Park).
"We wanted to flip the traditional Western on its head, and explore PTSD and mental illness in a Western movie that's also a psychological thriller. These subjects are rarely discussed in tandem with the Civil War." (Lawrence Roeck)
