"A mysterious puzzle box of a film, anchored by a quietly mesmerizing performance by James Freedson-Jackson"
  —Los Angeles Times
"Its atmospheric sophistication holds strong throughout, channeling a wonder for the natural world reminiscent of Terrence Malick with an air of existential dread straight out of Andrei Tarkovsky"
"Maddening, yet exceptionally-directed... An engaging, well-made film masking the absurdity of its various levels and alternative realities"
  —The Film Stage
"Elliptical and mysterious... Like many stories about trauma and abuse, The Strange Ones is as much about its lingering aftermath as about the thing itself"
  —Film Journal International

Following a violent incident, two young men (Alex Pettyfer and James Freedson-Jackson) go on the run through a desolate rural landscape. We assume they are two brothers on vacation, yet something feels off kilter, as one wonders who they are and what are they after.

The outstanding performances in this atmospheric thriller are a tour de force and the unforeseeable events furnish unsettling suspense. As relationships, identities, and realities shift in unexpected ways, tensions mount, creating an atmosphere rife with unease. Mysterious events surround their odyssey as it becomes evident that a dark and complex web of secrets will soon emerge, as they head toward an unknown destination which will loom larger than the set of events that sent them there.

This masterful feature debut by Lauren Wolkstein and Christopher Radcliff, hauntingly lensed to emphasize both the majesty and menace of nature, is a spellbinding psychological mystery.

Directed by Lauren Wolkstein and Christopher Radcliff, U.S.A., 2017, 82 mins.
