"With its hypnotic score, stupendous performances and its superb monochrome cinematography...it is something to set aside early work by David Lynch and Spike Lee"
"Deliciously deadpan... Jarmusch proved DIY film could be heartfelt, charming, wise and silly all at the same time"
Jim Jarmusch director of Paterson, Night on Earth, Dead Man, Only Lovers Left Alive and other films is a great American filmmaker, sometimes marginalized because his films are quirky, with a great sense of irony and humor, feature characters who are outsiders. Here, in his third feature film, he continues the deadpan take of his debut feature, Stranger Than Paradise, in the story of convicts (Tom Waits and John Lurie) who team up with fellow inmate Roberto Benigni, escape from prison, and start a life on the lam. Funny and original, this is a film to be re-evalued as both an iconic film of the 1980s, and as a formative foundation of Jim Jarmusch's unique cinematic oeuvre.
Directed by Jim Jarmusch, USA, 1986,107 mins.
