Editing 101

Ages 9-13

Get the tools and know-how to be a film editor in this introduction to editing techniques and software.

Editing is one of the most important parts of a film production but knowing where to start can be challenging. In this five-day camp, students get a crash course in film editing and gain the technical skills, vocabulary, and know-how to craft a story using editing software. 

This in person camp takes place at FACETS (1517 W. Fullerton Ave. Chicago IL 60614)

Outcomes & Benefits
  • Tools: create simple title cards, assemble clips, utilize transitions, and add credits 
  • Study: editing terms, film vocabulary, and the history of film editing  
  • Creative Storytelling: cut your film from an editor’s perspective and take director’s vision into consideration   
  • The Basics: special effects, audio editing, color editing, and exporting 
  • Tricks: keyboard shortcuts, technical specifications, and troubleshooting methods 
Tech Specs
  • A computer, tablet, or phone with a preinstalled editing program is required 
  • An editing program such as Adobe Premiere, iMovie, or the free online editing app OpenShot (additional details will be sent before the start of camp)
Cancellation Policy

Deadline for cancellations for a full refund is 3 weeks prior to the start of each program. Cancelling within 3 weeks incurs a $100 cancellation fee.
