FACETS ANNOUNCES NEW “MAKE IT A DOUBLE” MONTHLY SERIES WITH A QUEER GALENTINE’S DOUBLE FEATURE

CHICAGO—FACETS is thrilled to announce their new monthly double feature series, Make it a Double, with a special iteration of the third annual Galentine’s Day programming. Kicking the new series off is the Queer Galentine’s double feature of Lukas Moodysson’s poetic 1998 debut feature, Show Me Love (Fucking Åmål), and Angela Robinson’s cult classic, D.E.B.S. (2004). You aren’t going to want to miss this very special kickoff to the new Make it a Double series! Tickets for the program are $12 / single ticket & $15 / double feature ticket, with FACETS Members saving 15% on all ticket orders.

MAKE IT A DOUBLE – QUEER GALENTINE’S

“Gal pals,” ‘besties,” “girlfriends” are among the many terms women in queer relationships get called. This year, our Galentine’s double feature is an ode to the closest female friendships of them all, lesbian relationships!
On Friday, February 9th, we’re kicking off our new monthly Make it a Double screening series with a “double date” pairing of two underrated gems of lesbian cinema, Swedish filmmaker Lukas Moodysson’s tender and poetic 1998 film Show Me Love (originally titled Fucking Åmål) at 7pm and Chicago-born filmmaker Angela Robinson’s campy spy satire with a queer heart of gold, D.E.B.S. (2004) at 9pm.
Galentine’s Day (celebrated the day before Valentine’s) might be a made-up holiday coined by a 2010’s sitcom character, but the feminist spirit of the holiday has permeated culture in the last decade and become a longstanding tradition celebrated between friends. This year, we’re melding the romantic and platonic elements of the two holidays to make for a sapphic Galentine’s showcase of two underrated ‘90s and ‘00s gems!
