FACETS Presents Chicago Encore Engagement of Claire Denis’s BOTH SIDES OF THE BLADE

CHICAGO—FACETS is excited to announce the Chicago encore engagement of Both Sides of the Blade, an Official Selection of the 2022 Berlin International Film Festival and winner of the Silver Berlin Bear award for Best Director. Screenings will be available September 3-4 and 10-11. Tickets can be purchased in advance through FACETS’ website and cost $12/person per screening, and $10/FACETS Members with proof of active membership.

Synopsis
The legendary Claire Denis delivers an understated yet psychologically vivid romantic drama, co-written with her Let the Sunshine In collaborator Christine Angot.
Radio-show presenter Sara (Juliette Binoche, Let the Sunshine In) and her ex-con husband, Jean (Vincent London, Titane), have been living happily together for years. However, on her way to work one day, Sara sees François (Grégoire Colin, Beau Travail), an old flame and Jean’s former best friend, outside of the metro. François gets in touch with Jean to propose the idea of going into business together, and he also happens to be very interested in seeing Sara again. Strangely, this gives Sara the opportunity to take a good hard look at her long term relationship with Jean, and a love triangle is formed when François asks Jean to work as a scout at his sports agency, drawing all three lives into a web of deception and desire, while Sara grapples with her increasingly volatile state of mind as she oscillates between the two men. Events begin to spiral out of control, which propel this finely wrought and melancholic narrative, with Denis’s characteristic knack for capturing the intimate sensuality of everyday life on full display, into a complex, emotional tale about a marriage in crisis, as well as the destructive forces of tension and attraction.
