In John Lewis: Good Trouble, acclaimed filmmaker Dawn Porter (Trapped, Gideon’s Army) chronicles the extraordinary life and career of legendary civil rights activist and Georgia congressman John Lewis, who sadly just passed in July. Using rare archival footage and interviews with political leaders, Congressional colleagues, and other key figures, as well as present-day interviews with the 80 year old Lewis, this documentary takes audiences through his 60-plus year career of social activism and legislative action on civil rights, voting rights, gun control, health care reform, and immigration. Porter also delves into Lewis’ childhood, his inspiring family, and his fateful meeting with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1957.

According to Film Inquiry, Good Trouble is bursting with inspiration both powerful and essential” while CNN has praised the film for being “both timely and timeless in honoring a man who has spent his entire adult life in the public arena.” Shot in a cinéma verité style, John Lewis: Good Trouble is a timely portrait of a civil rights hero.
