Take your filmmaking journey to the next level with FACETS Film 102 – Intermediate Filmmaking, where you’ll build on the fundamentals from Film 101 and explore advanced skills through hands-on experience in editing and other key roles.
This course offers a deeper dive into screenwriting, cinematography, directing, and editing. Working in filmmaking teams, participants collaborate with our expert media educators to explore both the technical and artistic sides of filmmaking, culminating in the production of an original, collaborative short film.

Pre-Requisite: Participation in Film 101 is recommended before taking Film 102: Intermediate Filmmaking.
Graduates of Film 101 & Film 102 are invited to participate in the Children’s and Youth Juries of the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival. CICFF is the largest children’s film festival in the world and an Oscar®-qualifying children’s film festival.

- EMPOWERMENT! Film 102 – Intermediate Filmmaking empowers kids and teens to unleash their creativity, build self-confidence, and develop essential skills to excel on and off a film set: communication, teamwork and critical thinking skills through film screenings, guided discussions, and collaborative art making.
- SHOWCASE! The last day of the program we welcome parent and friends to join us for our SHOWCASE and WORLD PREMIERE of the film made in class!
- JURY PARTICIPATION! – Film 102 participants will be invited to join the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival (CICFF) Children and Youth Juries, where children and teens take an active role in the film industry by reviewing, deliberating, and awarding prizes to CICFF films.

- Use cinematography to enhance shot design, lighting, and visual aesthetic

- Edit collaborative final projects as a team
- Sound edit dialogue, sound effects, and music
- Utilize special effects
Tech Specs
- FACETS provides production equipment and editing stations.
- Participants will edit projects collaboratively.
- Participants are welcome to bring personal electronic devices or pencil and paper for note taking.

- Monday – Filmmaking Fundamentals – Intro, Hands-on Filmmaking (Production Cycle), Elements of Filmmaking, Storytelling Fundamentals
- Tuesday – Pre-Production – Story Development, Treatment, Screenwriting, Set Design
- Wednesday – Production – Shooting Begins
- Thursday – Production – Shooting Ends, Editing Introduction
- Friday – Post Production – Final Cut, Presentation, Graduation
Cancellation Policy
Deadline for cancellations for a full refund is 3 weeks prior to the start of each program. Cancelling within 3 weeks incurs a $100 cancellation fee.
