ADIFF Chicago Film Series 2022

Screening June 10-12, 2022

Watch 10 films from 10 countries with 9 U.S. Premieres at the special ADIFF Chicago Film Series from June 10-12, 2022.

For the 19th consecutive year, ADIFF Chicago and FACETS collaborate to bring back to the Windy City a selection of award-winning films celebrating the human experience of people of color all over the world. With FACETS being in a reopening phase due to the impact of COVID, the program this year will be a weekend Film Series spotlighting ten award-winning narrative films and documentaries from ten different countries.

Several films explore important moments in history including Marighella by Wagner Moura, an action drama set in 1969 Brazil about the Afro-Brazilian Revolutionary urban fighter; Dancing the Twist in Bamako by veteran French director Robert Guédiguian, a love story set in 1962 Mali, when the country just gained its independence; the noir romantic drama set during Apartheid Back of The Moon: Sophiatown 1958 by Oscar nominated South African director Angus Gibson; and the historical documentary Fighting for Respect: African-Americans During WWI by Joanne Burke that looks at the contributions of African-American soldiers in Europe and the USA in the 1910s.

Other films present contemporary stories set in Cameroon, New Zealand, the USA, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Tunisia focusing mainly on individual journeys of people seeking social justice, inner peace or simply the chance for a better life, against all odds.

PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP

Established in 1993, the African Diaspora International Film Festival (ADIFF) is a Harlem based minority-led not-for-profit international film festival that presents, interprets, and educates about films that explore the human experience of people of color all over the world in order to inspire imaginations, disrupt stereotypes and help transform attitudes that perpetuate injustice.

The mission of The African Diaspora International Film Festival (ADIFF) is to expand the traditional views and perceptions of what the Black experience is by showcasing award-winning socially relevant documentary and fiction films about people of color, from Peru to Zimbabwe, from the USA to Belgium and from New Zealand to Jamaica.
