Vital Conversations is a joint program between FACETS and Kartemquin Films.

“Artivism: Can Art Bring Us to Action?” kicks off the new “Vital Conversations” screening series brought to you by FACETS and Kartemquin Films, two mainstays of the Chicago independent film scene.

Join us at FACETS for a weekend of programming that explores how documentary filmmakers, artists, and artist spaces are using their respective mediums to activate communities and create conversations. Artivism features four main events from Aug 9-11, 2024, featuring documentary film screenings, a panel discussion between filmmakers, art activists, and scholars, along with a master conversation on the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago from 1968 to 2024 with Gordon Quinn (Inquiring Nuns) and Andy Davis (The Fugitive).

This first edition of the Vital Conversations series will begin our dive into the many vibrant intersections between documentary filmmakers and artists who are using their platforms to spark stronger futures.
