With its World Premiere at Sundance and Chicago Premiere at ADIFF, Brides (2025) tells the coming-of-age story of two Muslim teenage girls in the UK, Muna and Doe, who, facing racism and bullying, are lured by social media promises of a better life in Syria as ISIS brides.
Raising teenagers and supported by her mother, whose home pulses with reggae and Jamaican vibrations, Beverly-Jean embodies the fierce maternal love and deep family bonds cherished within Caribbean culture. Her secret struggle with grief leads to a powerful journey exploring resilience, community support, and healing. From the islands to the city, Village Keeper is a love letter to Black mothers.
Screened in English, Turkish with English subtitles.
Directed by Nadia Fall, 2025, 93 minutes, UK, Drama
