Saturday, October 29, 2022, FACETS presents two stop-motion films from Laika Studios, ParaNorman (2012) at 4:00 pm and Coraline (2009) at 7:00 pm.
To get ready for FACETS’ 39th Annual Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, which runs this November 4-20, we’re bringing back two spooky, now-classic stop-motion films for the Halloween-themed double feature, CICFF Presents: Family Fright Matinees.
Joining the ranks of acclaimed (and spooky) stop-motion family films like Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005), Laika Studios’ ParaNorman and Coraline are beloved by children, adults, and the connoisseurs of the strange, dark, and mysterious. Celebrating it’s 10-year anniversary, ParaNorman bursts with dark atmosphere as a 11-year-old boy with the power to see the dead must fight through an all-out zombie apocalypse. Staring Dakota Fanning and from the director of James and the Giant Peach (1996), Coraline is a beautifully animated, nightmarish fairy tale about a girl who gets trapped in an alternate version of her family’s home.
This double feature is programmed by Deidre Searcy, FACETS Festival Programmer.
