“★★★★★ – Terrifying and beautiful, believable and fantastical, this is one of the best children’s films in years and Selick’s finest.” – Empire
Travel behind the veil into mysterious, dark world of Henry Selick’s stop-motion audience favorite.
Joining the ranks of director Henry Selick’s now-classic stop-motion films, The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and James and the Giant Peach (1996), Coraline is a beautifully animated, nightmarish fairy tale. While wandering around her rambling old house in her boring new town, 11-year-old Coraline discovers a hidden door to a fantasy version of her life. In order to stay in the fantasy, she must make a frighteningly real sacrifice. Can she do it?
Based on Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed dark fantasy novella and staring Dakota Fanning (I Am Sam, Night Moves) as the title character, Coraline was Laika Studios first feature film production and first hit – now ranked as the third highest grossing stop-motion film ever.
Coraline is part of our special October film series, CICFF Presents: Family Frights and is screening as a double feature with ParaNorman. View full series.
Directed by Henry Selick, 2009, USA, 100 mins.
