“As with most of Cronenberg’s movies, the pleasures are intellectual as well as visceral. Crimes of the Future isn’t always easy to watch, but it’s an awful lot of fun to think about.” – Justin Chang, NPR
“The ideas that Cronenberg puts forth are powerful and poignant.” – Richard Brody, The New Yorker
As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations.
With his partner Caprice (Léa Seydoux, Blue is the Warmest Color), celebrity performance artist Saul Tenser (frequent David Cronenberg collaborator Viggo Mortensen, History of Violence, Eastern Promises) publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs, as his body undergoes new transformations and mutations, in avant-garde performances. Timlin (Kristen Stewart, Personal Shopper), an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements, which is when a mysterious group is revealed, whose mission is to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution. For his first feature in eight years, visionary director David Cronenberg (Videodrome, The Fly, Dead Ringers) has made an evocative vision of the future where the lines between technology and humanity have been blurred and humans have moved beyond their natural state.
