“Crumbs is a fascinating and… astonishing directorial debut” – Shane Scott-Travis, Taste of Cinema
Crumbs (2015) marks the first science fiction film to be released from the nation of Ethiopia, as well as Miguel Llansó’s first major international release.
In a post-apocalyptic wasteland with a mysterious spaceship hovering over Earth, a scavenger named Candy (Daniel Tadesse) wanders the landscape searching for trinkets that are the pop-culture artifacts of the forgotten past. Leaving his home in an abandoned bowling alley, he sets out on a journey across a ravaged landscape where he’ll encounter roving thieves, a mysterious witch, a free-associating shaman dressed like Santa Claus, and the remains of 20th Century Consumerism seen in a new light.
This wonderfully strange mini-adventure from director Miguel Llansó takes a whimsical look at the cosmological power of found objects and appropriated cultures – an off-the-wall take on mythology and identity with a unique spin.
Miguel Llansó, Spain/Ethiopia, 2015, 69 mins., DCP
Screening in Amharic with English subtitles
