On November 16th, our Speakeasy Cinema series—curated by Raul Benitez—returns with Ray Enright and Busby Berkeley’s lively, toe-tapping musical comedy Dames (1934). We’re also offering a special matinee screening on Sunday, November 17th!

In Dames, a multimillionaire launches a crusade against “filthy” forms of entertainment, like Broadway shows. But his plans are hilariously derailed when his own eccentric family gets involved in producing a wild musical, packed with Busby Berkeley’s signature show-stopping dance numbers. With a sparkling cast led by Joan Blondell, Ruby Keeler, and Dick Powell, this 1934 classic delivers extravagant choreography and catchy tunes, all while poking fun at the very idea of censorship.
Bursting with the glitz and glam of pre-Code Hollywood, Dames is a dazzling spectacle that shouldn’t be missed!
