We begin with a cult-favorite OVA series set in a mysterious shop tucked deep within Chinatown, where the enigmatic proprietor offers rare creatures to curious customers — each sale carrying a dark, moral twist. Blending gothic melodrama, lush art direction, and tragic irony worthy of The Twilight Zone, it’s a striking mix of supernatural elegance and late-’90s aesthetic excess.
Our second feature, from some of the same creative minds, whips that refinement into a hyperactive collage of pop culture parody, fashion, and absurd humor. A snapshot of the golden age of experimental anime, this rarely seen anthology bursts with manic energy and bold design — though it’s also a product of its time, complete with moments that haven’t aged gracefully and may be considered offensive. We’ve placed it at the end of the block for those who’d prefer to skip it.
Together, these two works highlight just how wildly diverse anime could be at the turn of the 1990s — from moody moral tales to madcap visual anarchy.
Screening in Japanese with English subtitles.
