Join us for a special screening of the Chicago-made no-budget improvised cult comedy Dog Movie featuring a cast and crew post-screening Q&A.

A passive-aggressive tenderqueer couple sends their household into a quiet tailspin when they adopt an elderly dog who shares the same name as the unemployed couch surfer they just can’t seem to confront in Bros Before filmmaker Henry Hanson’s improvised microbudget debut feature, which he/they describe as “the trans Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

MUSCLE DISTRIBUTION

Muscle is a new film distribution company from historian, programmer, and filmmaker Elizabeth Purchell. Borne out of an understanding of the role that accessibility plays in shaping cultural histories, we’re dedicated to complicating and expanding the canon by shining a light on works that either never received their proper due or that have unjustly faded into obscurity, and championing uncompromising new works by some of today’s most exciting underground filmmakers. We love scrappy, misfit films that don’t fit into any particular box.

IMPROVISED FILMMAKING WITH HENRY HANSON – 4/11 @ 2:00 PM

In this free hands-on interactive workshop, participants will learn how to make a coherent movie with minimal preparation using the resources they already have at their disposal. I will demonstrate the methods I used to make my award-winning no-budget improvised feature comedy “Dog Movie” — drawing inspiration from a wide range of sources including Viola Spolin’s actor training system, Hong Sang-Soo’s production methods, the Dogme 95 manifesto, my formal training in improv comedy and film production, and my eclectic experiences as an indie film professional and community organizer. RSVP for free.
