FACETS Announces 2023 Summer Film Camps for Ages 8-17, Available June, July, & August

CHICAGO—FACETS will again be offering its acclaimed, annual summer camps, with expanded offerings for ages 8 to 17. Long celebrated for its Chicago International Children’s Film Festival (CICFF), an annual showcase for families, FACETS’ Summer Film Camps will take place from Monday, June 12th through Friday, August 11th, 2023. Camps offered include Film 101: Film Foundations, Film 102: Intermediate Filmmaking, Introduction to YouTube, Digital Animation, Editing 101, and Acting for Stage & Screen. Camps will take place in-person at FACETS, located at 1517 W. Fullerton Ave., in Chicago, IL and select camps offer virtual participation via Zoom. Pricing ranges from $250 to $450 per camp session and a 15% Early Bird discount is available until February 14 using promo code FILMCAMP15.

FULL 2023 FILM CAMPS SCHEDULE

All virtual camps accept enrollments from anywhere in the United States while in-person camps are only available to residents of the Chicagoland area. Deadline for cancellations is three weeks prior to the start of each program with a $100 cancellation fee.

Film 101: Film Foundations (In-Person)

Now celebrating the 30th year of FACETS’ flagship summer camp! At Film 101, kids and teens explore the world of film with activities that encourage creativity, teamwork, and self-confidence.

Ages 8-10: Session 1: M-F, June 19-23, 9am-5pm

Ages 8-10: Session 2: M-F, July 18-22, 9am-5pm

Ages 11-13: Session 1: M-F, June 12-16, 9am-5pm

Ages 11-13: Session 2: M-F, July 10-14, 9am-5pm

Film 102: Intermediate Filmmaking (In-Person)

Take your skills a step further by diving deeper into the filmmaking process. Film 102 expands on the fundamentals learned in Film 101 and gives participants more experience with screenwriting, cinematography, directing, and editing.

Ages 11-13: M-F, July 24-28, 10am-3pm

Introduction to YouTube (In-Person + Virtual Options Available)

Set yourself up for success with your very own YouTube channel in this crash-course on the creative platform. YouTube is one of the most popular and innovative platforms for content creation available to young creatives today. Many students want to start creating content for social media, but don’t know where to start.

Digital Animation (In-Person + Virtual Options Available)

Editing 101 (In-Person + Virtual Options Available)

Editing is one of the most important parts of a film production, but knowing where to start can be challenging. In this five-day camp, students get a crash course in film editing and gain the technical skills, vocabulary, and know-how to craft a story using editing software.

Acting for Stage and Screen (In-Person)

As we learn and develop scenes, discover the differences of performance for the camera, do improv and acting games, learn blocking and movement, The Meisner Technique, and distinguish between different styles and genres of story and character, your child is sure to have an engaging and memorable summer at FACETS.
