A conversation between Gordon Quinn and Andrew Davis addressing the integral task of documenting challenging, yet important historic political moments on film.

Later this month, on August 19th, the Democratic National Convention (DNC) returns to Chicago for the first time since the volatile DNC in 1968. We invite the public to join a conversation about the complicated necessity of documenting social movements and historic events with two filmmakers who were at the DNC in 1968, Gordon Quinn, Founder of Kartemquin Films, and director/writer/producer Andrew Davis (The Fugitive), who shot footage at the ’68 DNC for Haskell Wexler’s Medium Cool (1969).

The conversation will be moderated by Rich Moskal, former head of Chicago Film Office. Gordon Quinn will be present at the event and Andrew Davis will join via Zoom. The conversation will be augmented by clips from important films of the era.

The event will be followed by a reception in FACETS’ Lounge.

Andrew Davis

Andrew Davis (Director/Producer/Writer) is a filmmaker with a reputation for directing intelligent thrillers, most notably the Academy Award® nominated box-office hit, The Fugitive, starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones. Andrew began his work in film as he was graduating University of Illinois in 1968 and found a job on the phantom unit shooting the DNC protests and police riots.
