Screening July 30, 2022

A bottle of J&B, a sexy electro soundtrack, a generous dollop of 1970’s Eurochic sleaze…and ice cream?!

This summer, Chicago celebrates Italy’s Giallo films with an all-day immersion into this fascinating niche of the horror genre. Join Stephanie Sack from the Secret Cinema School for the sweetest hand-selected titles emblematic of the decade’s most controversial directors.

Furthering the authentic Italian deliciousness, fans of ice cream and murder will enjoy a one-time-only Giallo-inspired gallery show from Chicago artist Corinne Halbert, as well as a custom flavor of locally-made small batch gelato! So, slip on those black leather gloves, polish that razor blade to shiny perfection, and swing by Facets for the most scrumptious scoops of GIALLO GELATO!

SMALL BATCH GELATO

Taste the sweetness of 70’s Italian films at Giallo Gelato! A fellow film fanatic and a master of dessert, Jay Bliznik of the Chicago-based Sideshow Gelato is generously crafting a horrifically delicious flavor, Giallo e Sangue!   As the yummiest homage to Giallo, at 5 pm complimentary samples of yellow Zabaglione gelato flavored with marsala and ribbons of raspberry jam will be served in the studio. Mmmmmmm, everyone loves ice cream and murder!

GALLERY SHOW

Corinne Halbert is a Chicago horror artist with an extensive book collection. Her work is equally influenced by 1970s cult films, Looney Tunes, and Garfield comics. For anyone with an interest in the macabre, this is a fantastic artist to watch, especially her series based on Dario Argento’s hallucinatory masterpiece of the occult, 1977’s Suspiria. Stop by FACETS during Giallo Gelato to view an exclusive exhibit of Corinne’s Giallo-inspired paintings!

A self-taught Giallophile, Stephanie brandishes a giant knife in glee to be partnering with FACETS for this all-day soiree of Italian cinema!  Catch her online at secretcinemaschool.com, and stay tuned for her small group film classes and even more in-person events coming soon.
