Ginger Snaps sunk its teeth into female autonomy and burgeoning sexuality twenty years ago – and left a lasting impression on feminist horror.” MorbidlyBeautiful.com

Two death-obsessed sisters experiencing the trials and tribulations of early adolescence must deal with the tragic consequences when one of them is bitten by a deadly werewolf in this Y2K Canadian cult classic.

The story of two outcast sisters, Sisters Ginger (Katharine Isabelle) and Brigitte (Emily Perkins) are outcasts in their mindless suburban town of Bailey Downs. On the night of Ginger’s first period, she is savagely attacked by a wild creature. Ginger’s wounds miraculously heal but something is not quite right. Now Brigitte must save her sister and save herself.

While not the first iteration of the feminist horror subgenre, Ginger Snaps’ themes of empowerment and bodily autonomy presented within the confines of the traditional werewolf film paved the way for more horror narratives that showed women viewers just how powerful they could be, especially when supporting one another.
