Film Trivia returns Thursday, December 18, with the Chicago Premiere of the Director’s Cut of Shu Lea Cheang’s I.K.U. (2000), presented in partnership with alterotics.

A shapeshifting cybernetic humanoid is sent out by a corporation to collect sexual data by engaging in intercourse with various people. This provocative fusion of cyberpunk, queer cinema, and experimental erotica that boldly reimagines pleasure in the digital age.

Known for her groundbreaking and transgressive works including Fresh Kill (1994), one of the first cyberfeminist films, and Fluidø (2017), which explored post-AIDS futures, Cheang has long challenged boundaries of genre, identity, and technology.

Screening preceded by a new short film by alterotics.

Shu Lea Cheang, Japan, 2000, 90 mins, DCP

PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP

This screening is presented in partnership with alterotics, an arts collective devoted to activating public life for trans/queer people. Moving-image sex art, archival research, event hosting, and community building make up the broad strokes of their practice. Based in Chicago, open to collaboration wherever 🙂
