★★★★ – “May is a horror film and something more and deeper, something disturbing and oddly moving.” – Roger Ebert

Immerse yourself in the isolated world of Lucky McKee’s May (2002), a disturbing and darkly comic psychological horror film that explores the complexities of loneliness, desire, and the pursuit of perfection.

May, a socially awkward young woman with a disturbing obsession with physical beauty, becomes increasingly consumed by her desire to create the perfect friend. As her relationships spiral out of control and her mind unravels, May’s search for companionship takes a horrific turn, leading her down a path of violence and madness.

What makes May even more captivating is its incredible supporting cast of ’90s and ’00s heavy hitters who further elevate the film with their nuanced portrayals, including Jeremy Sisto, Anna Faris, and James Duval. Each actor brings depth and personality to their roles, making the characters feel both real and unsettlingly strange.

With its blend of gothic horror and psychological depth, May is both a tragic exploration of human vulnerability and a chilling tale of monstrous obsession. The film’s off-kilter humor, poignant moments, and shocking violence make it an underrated standout in the genre, offering a uniquely unsettling experience.
