In-Person Screening

Memoria

Screening June 18-19, 2022

“★★★★ – Rarely have a filmmaker and performer been so completely on the same page as Swinton and [Weerasethakul] are here.” – Brian Tallerico, RogerEbert.com

“Weerasethakul doesn’t make convenient movies, and our culture of instant cinematic gratification could scarcely be more antithetical to the way he perceives the world.” – Justin Chang, L.A. Times

Watch SAIC graduate Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s newest masterpiece that was selected as Colombia’s official entry to the 94th Academy Awards.

Ever since being startled by a loud ‘bang’ at daybreak, Jessica (Tilda Swinton) is unable to sleep and begins experiencing a mysterious sensory syndrome. In Bogotá to visit her sister, she befriends Agnes (Jeanne Balibar), an archaeologist studying human remains discovered within a tunnel under construction. Jessica travels to see Agnes at the excavation site and in a small town nearby, she encounters a fish scaler, Hernan (Elkin Diaz). They share memories by the river and as the day comes to a close, Jessica is awakened to a sense of clarity. From the extraordinary mind of Palme D’or winning director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and starring Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton, comes a bewildering drama that has been described by Indiewire as a film “that is more meditation than movie, a transfixing deep-dive into the profound challenges of relating to people and places from the outside in.”

Screening in English and Spanish with English subtitles.

Directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul,
