In-Person Screening

Night of the Comet

Screening October 15, 2022

“Unapologetically scrappy and endearingly enjoyable.” – Budd Wilkins, Slant Magazine

Delight in the sisterhood of two L.A. valley girls in a comedy that inspires hope in the apocalypse.

Screening begins with a virtual Q&A with co-star Kelly Maroney at 9:00pm, followed by the film at 9:30pm.

It’s “good times to the max” in this last-man-on-earth story about teenage sisters Reggie (Catherine Mary Stewart) and Sam (Kelli Maroney), a movie theater usher and a cheerleader, even as the Earth passes through the tail of a comet and most of humankind are turned to violent zombies or dust. Reggie and Sam’s military dad shared a few tips about how to defend themselves, but what will they do with Hector (Robert Beltran), the dreamy fellow survivor who might be their last chance to nab a boyfriend?

Their post-apocalyptic adventure includes a dazzling neon radio station, plus a random dance scene at the mall—because who doesn’t enjoy a little retail therapy?—where they are ambushed by deranged stock boys. The sisters are also monitored by a group of scientists in a secret underground laboratory, and cult icon Mary Woronov (a collaborator of Andy Warhol and Roger Corman) is chilling as the steely researcher dead set against taking in outsiders.

Directed by Thom Eberhardt, USA, 1984, 95 minutes, Blu-Ray
