On Thursday, May 9, Anime Club turns up the heat with a members only screening of the 1995 six-episode OVA series adaptation of a famous seinen manga.

“Seinen,” literally translating to “young man” in Japanese, is a subgenre of manga and anime that features more mature, complex themes than its younger counterpart, called “Shōnen.” Seinen anime often features a young adult man as the protagonist and can focus on a wide range of topics like action, politics, science fiction, fantasy, relationships, sports, or comedy. In the case of the OVA series we’re screening this May, comedy and relationships are the traits which place it firmly in the seinen category, and also what makes this a laugh riot cult classic on par with the raunchy-yet-lovable romcoms that came out of the USA in the 90’s and 00’s.

We’ll be offering drink specials and raffling off a special event poster + curated anime prizes. Members are invited to bring one guest for free, included with their FACETS Film Club Membership ($15/Month or $150/Year). Attendees can hang out in The Lounge or The Studio before and after the screenings to chat about the films, grab a drink, listen to music, watch some OVAs and let us know what other anime should be played on the big screen.
