Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Pulse (2001) is a landmark of techno-horror and one of the most eerily prophetic films ever made about life in the digital age.

As Tokyo residents begin encountering disturbing presences emerging through the internet, they are drawn into a world where connection itself becomes a source of isolation. Ghostly figures appear on screens, networks collapse into silence and dread, and an unsettling question takes shape: what happens when the boundaries between the living and the dead dissolve inside the systems meant to keep us connected?

Structured as a series of interconnected, drifting narratives, Pulse transforms urban alienation into something vast and metaphysical, where empty rooms, flickering monitors, and abandoned digital spaces become sites of lingering trauma and existential fear. Kurosawa’s restrained style and slow-burning tension create a sense of unease that grows not through spectacle, but through absence.

Paired with Egg, this screening places Pulse within a broader exploration of early digital-era anxiety—two films that turn emerging technologies into uncanny landscapes of disconnection, collapse, and haunting resonance.

Film poster will be raffled off after the screening. Attendees can enter by purchasing a concession for $6 or more.
