“It’s hard to deny that in the 22 years since its release, it’s become a cult classic, perfectly capturing the zeitgeist of 2002” – Gabi Brown, The Nu Metal Agenda
Our tribute to nu-metal cinema kicks off at 7pm with Queen of the Damned (2002), a gothic horror film that merges the immortal allure of vampires with the raw power of early-2000s rock.
Directed by Michael Rymer, the film reimagines Anne Rice’s iconic vampire Lestat as a rebellious rock star, whose music stirs an ancient evil—Akasha, the Queen of the Damned, portrayed by the captivating Aaliyah. As Lestat’s fame grows, so does the danger, culminating in a supernatural showdown that threatens the vampire world.
Drenched in nu-metal anthems, the Queen of the Damned soundtrack is as unforgettable as its dark fantasy narrative. With songs written and performed by Korn’s Jonathan Davis and featuring tracks from Deftones, Static-X, and Disturbed, the film pulses with the aggressive energy of the era. Tracks like “Forsaken” and “System” amplify the movie’s gothic atmosphere, making this a must-see for both horror fans and nu-metal enthusiasts alike.
With its blend of vampiric seduction, rock star rebellion, and a genre-defining soundtrack, Queen of the Damned stands as a cult classic that captures the spirit of the early 2000s music scene. Don’t miss this chance to experience the seductive power of Akasha and Lestat on the big screen during our nu-metal edition of COLD SWEAT.
