“A directorial debut of unfiltered frankness in both its tragedy and comedy, Sorry, Baby is a singular feat of storytelling.” – The Film Stage
Sorry, Baby is funny, sad, thoughtful, and specific, a keenly observed portrait of a woman blown off course by a traumatic incident. – Vanity Fair
In her deeply felt and sharply observed debut, writer-director Eva Victor brings a singular voice to the screen, portraying the quiet devastation and slow, uneven road to healing of a young academic.
Sorry, Baby follows Agnes (Eva Victor, previously known for her role on Billions), living in picturesque New England town, is a former graduate student turned professor, before and after a life-altering trauma, using a nonlinear structure that spans five years to reflect the contradictions of grief and recovery. Eva Victor delivers a performance that is both authentic and restrained, capturing Agnes’s sardonic humor and disorientation with remarkable emotional precision. Naomi Ackie (Mickey 17) shines as her quick-witted roommate, whose honest and loving friendship gives Agnes the space to confront what she has endured. Lucas Hedges (Lady Bird) lends gentle charm to the role of a kind, if slightly perplexed, neighbor, grounding the story in moments of unexpected connection and sensitivity.
Sorry, Baby is a remarkable seriocomic story about her complicated path toward healing in the aftermath of an all-too-common tragedy, and decides that it is time to move forward in her own life. Winner of the Sundance 2025 Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.
Directed by Eva Victor, U.S.A./Spain/France, 2025, DCP, 103 mins.
