“The Running Man continues to be one of the least talked about Arnold Schwarzenegger films of the 1980s, when it’s comfortably one of the most fun.” – Simon Brew, Den of Geek
Revel in a distinctly ‘80s vision of the future, full of smoke, steel, and spandex.
Set in a future police state where dissenters are made public enemies and sent to labor camps, Ben (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and his pals break free only to be captured and entered into a popular game show where they are “runners” hunted by lauded gladiatorial “stalkers.” A woman who works for the network snoops through the company files, discovers Ben was framed, and gets thrown into the game herself. Can our resistance fighters survive the ordeal and expose the lies of the state?
The source material for The Running Man is the novel by Stephen King. Before The Running Man, King wrote his first death game novel, The Long Walk, in which all of the contestants are teenagers, making it a noteworthy precursor to Battle Royale (2000).
