“Odd, ridiculous, engaging, and full of allure, The Shadow of the Cat is a beautiful low-budget film.” – The Independent Horror Society
Required viewing for fans of Hammer Film Productions, The Shadow of the Cat is an “old dark house” thriller about a watchful tabby that seeks revenge for the death of her dear owner.
In the early 1900s, an old man schemes with his butler and maid to murder his wife, Ella, to inherit her fortune. Ella’s cat, Tabitha, witnesses the event and the disposal of her body in a nearby swamp, and she begins terrorizing the killers around the clock. As an inspector and newspaper reporter investigate Ella’s disappearance, extended family are called to the house, including Ella’s favorite niece (Barbara Shelley). Some begin to suspect Ella’s husband is behind everything.
John Gilling, United Kingdom, 1961, 79 minutes, Blu-ray
