The 1974 stop motion animated classic by Rankin/Bass Productions is the beloved story of when a weary and discouraged Santa Claus considers skipping his Christmas Eve run.

Feeling forgotten by the children of the world, Santa decides he needs a vacation. Eager to help, Mrs. Claus, two spunky little elves and Vixen the Reindeer set out to see to where all the season’s cheer has disappeared. Aided by a magical snowfall, they reawaken the spirit of Christmas in children’s hearts and put Santa back in action. Starring the voices of Shirley Booth and Mickey Rooney.

The New York Times says “The breakout stars are Heat Miser and Snow Miser, bitter rivals and brothers with control over the elements. Their jaunty tune ranks among the catchiest original songs that a Rankin/Bass production ever yielded.”

Jules Bass/Arthur Rankin Jr, USA/Japan, 1974, 51 minutes, Blu-ray
