In Village Keeper, Beverly-Jean, a resilient widow drawing strength from her Jamaican roots, navigates a challenging urban landscape – a crowded Lawrence Heights apartment complex in Toronto – after her husband’s violent death.
The film delves into themes of identity, belonging, and the challenges of navigating adolescence as minorities in British society, where they experience “pervasive minoritization and othering.” Critics at Sundance highlighted the “star-making performances” of the two young leads and described the film as a “heartbreaking feature debut”.
