“In exalting the very worst of humanity, Bones displays a special glee and an unusual density of scary imagery.” New York Times
Four teens turn an abandoned building into a nightclub, only to discover the spirit of a numbers runner was murdered there and has returned, decades later, for revenge.
Hip hop star Snoop Dogg brings the swag and spooks in Bones, a horror cult-classic from the early aughts. The spirit of Jimmy Bones, a deceased numbers runner, returns decades later to avenge his death. His killings intersect with a group of teenagers who buy the brownstone he was murdered in, now abandoned and haunted, into a nightclub.
The film features fan favorites such as the iconic Pam Grier and contemporary horror queens Bianca Lawson (most known for her TV horror work in Buffy and Vampire Diaries) and Katherine Isabelle (of Ginger Snaps and American Mary). Director Ernest Dickerson’s career has always been a twofold of horror and Black storytelling. He began as cinematographer of many Spike Lee works including Do The Right Thing (1989) and Malcolm X (1992), later created Juice (1992) and Demon Knight (1995) and now prolifically tells stories through TV – most notably Godfather of Harlem, Raised By Wolves, and The Walking Dead.
Directed by Ernest Dickerson, USA, 2001, 96 mins.
