Friday, April 12, 2024, commemorate climate consciousness with prescient eco-horror of the early 1970s, Godzilla vs the Smog Monster (1971) at 7pm and Frogs (1972) at 9pm.
You’ll receive a free reptile or amphibian (not a real one, don’t worry) with every ticket, and we’ll have a horror pop-up market, drink specials, and more giveaways before both films.
In this recreation of an American International Pictures double bill from 1972, we present two early examples of cautionary climate cinema, Yashimitsu Banno’s militant monster mashup, Godzilla vs the Smog Monster (1971), and George McGowan’s cacophony of avenging amphibians and resentful reptiles, Frogs (1972), potent reminders of the urgency of saving our planet from the toxins of capitalism.
PRESHOWS
These screenings of Godzilla vs the Smog Monster and Frogs include brand new animated ad galleries created by Bill Van Ryn of Drive-In Asylum, a fanzine exploring classic eras of horror, sci-fi, cult, and exploitation films through vintage newsprint ads.
This screening is presented by the team behind our SUPER-HORROR-RAMA! series, programmed by Barry Kaufman, and sponsored by The House of Monsters.
MAKE IT A DOUBLE
Dive deep into the cinematic unconscious with heady double features paired with a boozy beverages from the FACETS Lounge. Every other month on the second Friday, our Make it a Double series mixes two feature films together to produce fun, obvious, or downright-absurd connections across cinematic history.
