“★★★★★ – Together, Gerwig and Baumbach create a hilarious and hectic picture which returns us to their signature themes.” – Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
This outrageous spin on the screwball comedy set during the holiday season in New York City marks the second co-writing and third acting collaboration between Hollywood power couple Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig.
Lonely college student Tracy (Lola Kirke) is feeling lost in her new life in NYC, leading her into the orbit of her future stepsister Brooke (Greta Gerwig). As impractical as she is spirited, Brooke takes Tracy on a whirlwind ride through the bohemian side of the city over Thanksgiving, selling her that she’s made every big-city fantasy real for herself. Baumbach and Gerwig dissect the notion of the “cool city friend” in unveiling Brooke’s life as a slow-rolling disaster, making this a spirited but underseen entry among their work though one with just as much pathos as comedy.
